Liu Wei Di Huang Wan promotes urination to clear out pathological fluids, while providing cooling and moistening nourishment to the Liver and Kidney Yin. It was originally a paediatric formula but has for a long time been used in adults with chronic disease. Signs of Liver and/or Kidney Yin deficiency include night sweats, sweating from the hands and feet, thirst, dry mouth, dizziness or blurred vison, urinary symptoms, or a weakness in the lower back or legs.

Studies on diabetic patients have demonstrated Liu Wei Di Huang Wan can stimulate insulin secretion, improve insulin sensitivity and delay insulin resistance. Liu Wei Di Huang Wan is also anti-inflammatory, and shows promising results in osteoporosis treatment through the upregulation of osteoblastic activity.

This formula is not suitable for patients with digestive symptoms resulting from a weak Spleen, or in the presence of an active external pathogen.
This formula may also be suitable for men with erectile dysfunction, including spontaneous or nocturnal emissions.
